The rhythms of Candomblé (Afro-Brazilian traditional worship) are those used to accompany the dances and songs of the Orixas (Gods) in a ritual, folk or artistic contexts.

They are about 28 rhythms between the Nations (name of tribal origin and its set of rituals) of Keto, Jeje & Angola.

Four instruments are used: The Gã (bell), the Lé (drum acute), the Rumpi (drum middle) and Rum (drum major in charge of making changes).

Angola nation's rhythms are played with the hands while Keto and Jeje drum sticks called Aquidavis are used.

The classes look at each rhythm and their respective instruments through notes, Cds and other support material, and are adapted to the needs of each student.

It also addresses some songs (original language, phonetics and translation) and aspects of dance.

The rhythms of Candomblé (Afro-Brazilian traditional worship) are those used to accompany the dances and songs of the Orixas (Gods - Archetypes - Forces of Nature) in a ritual, folk or art context.


In this workshop we will work the specific technique of each instrument used for the execution of the Nations Keto and Angola Candomble rhythms, using the oral (phonetic) and written (traditional and simplified) literacy.


Contents


1) Listen: different versions of the rhythms produced by traditional exponents of the genre.


2) Meaning: review on the symbolism of touch and their equivalent body (movements - dance).


3) Literacy traditional and simplified rhythms.


4) Technical work of each instrument individually: Atabaque (drums) grave - Rum, half - and sharp-Lé Rumpi and bell - GA.


5) Orchestration: ensemble group of different rhythms.


6) Songs: melody, phonetics and translation.


Percussion experience is required to participate in the workshop (ask about classes for beginners).
